A complete renovation of a dated apartment in Bilbao, reimagined around the character of its owner. Inspired by the client’s love of jiu-jitsu, subtle Japanese influences run throughout, from warm walnut and slatted joinery to natural textures, woven details and sculptural lighting.
The layout, finishes and bespoke joinery were completely reconsidered to create a calmer, more contemporary home. Where existing elements had character and quality, they were retained and given new life, including the original marble in the bathroom, while areas that no longer worked, such as the kitchen, were completely redesigned.
A restrained palette allows the materials to take centre stage, while personal artwork, books and collected objects bring moments of colour and individuality, creating a home that feels warm, considered and distinctly his.
